Welcome to
Australis Wood Studio
What began as a love of woodworking has grown into a space where creativity and community come together. At our Bundaberg studio, we celebrate the beauty of handmade craftsmanship — from unique artisan treasures in our gift gallery, to classes and workshops where people of all ages can learn new skills.
We also specialise in custom laser engraving, bespoke furniture builds, and restorations — bringing new life to old pieces and creating meaningful items built to last. Our studio is more than a workshop — it’s a place to slow down, make, and connect with the joy of craftsmanship.

Meet the Team
At Australis Wood Studio, our team is more than just makers — we’re storytellers, teachers, and explorers. Each of us brings our own craft, passion, and personality to the table, creating a space where skills are shared and creativity thrives. Meet the people behind the tools and discover the faces that make our community so special.

Resident Youth Artisan
Diesel
Also known as "The Woodmason", is our talented resident youth artisan. At just 12 years old, he started crafting unique pieces from repurposed wood and other natural materials—products that are as sustainable as they are imaginative. With early mentorship from his dad, Diesel quickly honed his approach through trial, error, and thoughtful design. His pieces range from playful toys and story stones to elegant décor—each one carefully finished for quality and individuality. Diesel’s passion is showing that age doesn’t limit imagination, and he’s proving every day that the next generation of makers is already here.

The Experimenter
Melissa
Mel is our creative all-rounder. From fibre crafts to garden design, she’s always trying something new (usually with materials she’s foraged, rescued, or recycled). She’s the person who can see a pile of driftwood, an old scarf, and a few seed pods, and somehow turn them into something magical. With a background in crafting with kids, Mel knows how to make creativity feel playful, sustainable, and fun—no rules, just exploration.

Head Artisan & Instructor
Jason
Jason brings years of experience in fine furniture making to our studio. He loves the inherent beauty of different timbers—every grain and knot is a feature, not a flaw. Whether refurbishing heirloom pieces or transforming irreparable items into new treasures, Jason’s focus is always on the details and the story each piece tells. As our lead instructor, he ensures every student leaves with skills and a story woven into their work.
